So this morning during my usual “Trello review”, i had a little creature pop-up on the top bar informing me of some updates and new features in Trello which is nice of it.
The official link to what is new lives here: http://blog.trello.com/
For anyone not familiar with Trello, it is a great tool similar to Kanban boards in lean development. Essentially, you can have different boards – one per team that everyone can view and edit, etc. In these boards you can have lists, such as “To do”, “Doing”, “Done”, (and more , you can add as many as you like) and then finally you can ‘cards’ which act as e-PostIt notes – such as “Update website plugins”.
This all looks like:

This is great for teams, such as Development departments, as they see what needs to be done, who is working on what, colour codes, etc. You can then move these cards between the lists as you desire.
Whats new?
The cool new items are grouped as “Power ups” – a nice term for additional functionality, which made me all the more suprised to find that these are in the free version – nice! What you can do here is pretty awesome:

You can choose to allow people to vote on each card – so a great use case for this would be to have a Trello board for “Feature requests”, and allow your users to vote and.. “de-vote” (??) each card so you can see what the demand is.
You can also use aging and calendar to see which cards havent been touched for a while (and can thus be deprecated?) and also overlay cards onto your calendar, so if you use Trello for your personal objectives like i do, then you can overlay these now into a calendar format making it even easier for you to be awesome at work.

Closing thoughts
So there you have it – the new Trello! I would definitely recommend everyone to go and have a play with it, its a terrific way of keeping up to date with your life and work, and also a great way of illustrating and sharing objectives between teams and groups (as you can add notes, attachments, etc to each card too!).
